CUI’s family of high density power supplies ranging from 100W to 365W provide certifications for the most recent update to the IEC 60601-1 medical safety standard.
IEC 60601-1 is the internationally harmonized safety standard for electronic medical equipment. The revisions in the new 3rd edition came into effect in the US on January 1st, 2014, for equipment introduced after this date. CUI’s medical power supplies are approved to meet the 3rd edition standard in Europe, Canada and now the US.
This new 3rd edition of IEC 60601-1 changes the way a medical device is classified: the medical device manufacturer must use an ISO-14971 risk analysis and management process to define one of four possible ‘means of protection’ classifications. ISO-14971 also specifies a process to identify hazards associated with medical devices, evaluate the associated risks, control these risks, and monitor the effectiveness of the controls.
CUI’s medical power supply family offers two means of patient protection (2 x MOPP) providing engineers with flexibility and an easier way to achieve compliance with the IEC 60601-1 3rd edition for their end product. These power supplies are also certified to IEC 60950-1, making them ideal for a range of non-medical applications where space is limited and energy efficiency is a priority.
CUI’s line of compliant high density medical power supplies includes:
