Intersil has released 12 new digital multiphase DC-DC power control- lers and a companion smart power stage, including the industry’s first digital solution with an Adaptive Voltage Scaling Bus (AVSBusTM). They are suitable for use with any microprocessor, ASIC or FPGA.

The new digital controllers provide up to seven phases assignable in any combination across two outputs, and work with the ISL99227 smart power stage to provide a scalable power system supporting loads ranging from 10A up to 450A.

The digital multiphase family is comprised of three groups of controllers. The ISL68137 and ISL68134 controllers use the AVSBus to power and communicate with ARM-based processors in networking, computing and wireless telecoms equipment. The AVSBus is a 50MHz high speed bus which connects directly to the processor to communicate telemetry data and deliver efficiency savings through adaptive voltage positioning.

Two general-purpose controllers, the ISL68127 and ISL68124, may be used to power network processors, FPGAs, SoCs and graphics accelerators.

Eight controllers – the ISL69147/44, ISL69137/34, ISL69128/27 and ISL69125/24 – have an additional secondary high-speed interface to power the latest Intel and AMD processors in cloud-computing applications.

The ISL681xx and ISL691xx controllers are based on a high performance digital engine featuring a patented synthetic current-control architecture which tracks each phase current with zero latency. This allows the device to respond to any load transient with precise current and voltage positioning, while requiring 30% less capacitance than competing devices. Synthetic current control also makes it possible to develop reliable systems using all ceramic capacitors.
