Industrial controls, PLCs, robotic manufacturing, engine control units, infotainment systems, power steering units, and brake management systems equipment all have one thing in common: each of these designs must store logged data during a brownout, or when power is interrupted or lost.
Storage capacitors are generally used to keep the entire system powered when data must be transferred from volatile memory to non-volatile memory (FLASH or EEPROM are generally used). Non-volatile MRAM (Magneto-resistive RAM) eliminates the need for this effort because storing data in MRAM is always fast and non-volatile.
